The Rhone Valley Vineyard is the gateway between northern viticulture which goes down to Valence (varietal wines) and southern viticulture from Montélimar (blended wines). Its history is naturally linked to the river which has shaped the valley for thousands of years and created the diversity of soils (granite, sandy, limestone, and clay) and climates (continental, mediterranean, temperate) that we know today. .
Since Antiquity, viticulture has been practiced there: the Romans developed the vineyards of Vienne, and more than a thousand years later, it was Pope John XXII who developed the vineyard of Châteauneuf-du-Pape where we find today the same grapes varieties Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Marsanne, Roussanne, Viognier etc ...
The reputation of Rhone winegrowers is well established: from the simplicity of the 'Côtes-du-Rhône' to the legendary 'Hermitage', 'Côte-Rôtie' and 'Condrieu', they have been able to tame the river and turn its water into wine. Winemakers are more than ever determined to continue their move upmarket and 'Premiumisation' of the last recent years.
